Another #2 Remington rolling block

I really don't consider myself a collector. I'm really more of a shooter that happens to collect old guns. I do admit to being partial to rolling blocks. I have nine at present. But I am especially fond of #2s.

A couple months ago I bought this beautiful reproduction gallery tang sight. But I didn't have anything that needed it. So I set out to resolve that shortcoming. I already had #2s in .32 Ballard XL, .32-20 and .44 Remington centerfire. I've had my eye out for a .22 and .38 #2 to round out the family.

A few weeks ago I came upon a nice #2 in .22LR. I worked out a deal a few days ago and it arrived today. I test fitted the gallery sight - I think it will work just fine  Smiley I plan to rust blue the sight this weekend.

Awesome. I don't currently have a #2 and need to remedy that soon.

Yes - - the #2 rolling block is pretty nifty.   I have a 32-20 and a 22.  Neither is a collector's piece but they are light and handy so  I have packed and shot them a lot.

These days I often regret that one time in the past I bought a mint (I know, but it really was!) #2 in 32 RF for $75 and then turned around and sold it for that within a year.

I think those of us who've been in the game for many decades could run an interesting thread on "the one that got away"   Grin

Btw, George - I still have my old Black Powder Cartridge Rifles and Black Powder Report magazines from the 1980s with many of your articles. Its still fun to pull out those old mags and reread them. I wrote a few articles for them too. Boy, that was a long time ago...

It turns out that my bottle of rust bluing solution was about empty. So I resorted to cold blue. Its not as pretty. But it seems to go well with the rifle. I'm looking forward to a range trip next week.

i really need another one of those sights.  Built 4 Granddaughters No. 4 rifles.  I've obtained 3 of these sights for them, need the 4th.  Can you imagine the heat I will have to endure if they aren't exactly the same?  Remember they are Granddaughters, drama is the key word.

I bought one a couple weeks ago in a garage sale. It was originally 32 RF and the bore is completely destroyed. It is missing the sliding extractor but a friend has a No.2 with a sliding extractor and we will copy it. I have been repairing the stock and refinishing it. Plan to reline the barrel to 22RF

It turns out this #2s bore was too worn to hold a good group. I tried five different brands of .22LR. But none would group well. So I sent it to John Taylor to be relined. I know he will restore its shooting ability.
