Range yesterday few observations.

Did not run any group test. Not sizing the brass properly. Neck size bushings on hand too big, M die plug is .306 Too small for .309 cast. Order is in to CH4D smaller bushings larger .308 M Die plug. Wanted to chose powders get 200 yard sight settings and see how the new (1955) Marlin feels offhand.  Loaded with way too much neck tension. .003

Went with 20 rounds 7.5 Gr Unique & 20 12 Gr 4759. Both recommended  loads in Matterns and Shapes pre WW2 books. Similar book velocity about 1350 fps. Sighted in dirt splash on the 200 yard berm then to painted steel NRA Lever Silhouette ram.

4 of us had been shooting 10 Shot mini matches with that ram 38/55 single shots all morning. 2 shooters 2 spotters and a spotting board. Good conditons we were hitting it well. Finished they spotted me with the 30/30

4759 first 10 shot 9 strikes group size larger than with my CPA. 12 lb rifle with a very good trigger vs 7 1/2 & creep.  Then suprised to find 10 more with Unique same point of impact. Same general not measured group size. Wiping before switching both powders clean burn . Eliminated Unique to keep the variables down but its a posable good option. No doubt 4227 good too, powder supply limited, saving it for 38/55 & 32/40   6 jugs of 4759 on hand.

Now to clean up the trigger & load two lots with 12 Gr 4759 One lot F/l sized opened to .308 using the M Die 2nd not F/L sized neck pull set from outside using Neck bushings. That test will include bench paper targets. Pick my sizing method with that test. Function through the magazine part of the testing.

Get size method set will bump the powder charge looking for more velocity. 1450 or a bit more, let you know.

Add appreciate this forums patience non SS post. Not much else to do while the virus is around, tinkering fun. Have not changed much with SS loads in 25 years. Thanks for all the 30/30 advise.

We're all in this together- that's what they keep telling us. So, Boats we can thank you for helping us pull through the closures and the growing boredom of this troubling time.
We can, additionally add another thanks to you for having been a font of worthwhile info for a very long time. Carry on with an attboy in your shooting box Smiley.

Thanks for that  90 % what I know about cast bullets and SS rifles came from ASSRA members .

Bloviate came from working and consulting for Foreign ship owners.  Difference is trimmed their advise down. Too many words don’t translate well.  Takes much longer write little & still get the point across
