There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

Westerner,
You have to cut and paste the 3 lines, not just click on the red part.

Thanks Randy, I am proud to share it.

Thanks one.

Lot of neat pictures there. See some shooting unsupported OH with traditional OH rifles.  They shoot in a different class?

That's a heck of a BBQ.......

Joe, the BBQ in that area of Texas is out of this world. Not far from them is a rustic BBQ place that seats 1200. They cook more than 1.3 million pounds of brisket, ribs and sausage a year there and it is SO good! Cooked over live oak with wet pecan shells added when it flares up.

Looking at this photo collage was an education.  I have never seen anyone ever use a leaning position like that.  Does it have a name?

Never saw any non-military breech loaders with that much wood under the barrel.  Is there a name for them?

Looks like that match was decided by the X-ring count.  What target, what range?  Didn't look as if they were all .22s.

What categories & matches are held?

If I wasn't so terribly old, I would like to attend.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments.
In Texas, BBQ is a big deal. Go big or go home.  That pit was built by Vesper "Bill" Wimberley for the club.  Bill is a long time Schuetzen shooter and past president of the club.  We have as many as 15 briskets cooking at one time.  Bill's s son Charlie has won many BBQ cook-off's.
We are having our first prize shoot of the year tomorrow and will have BBQ chicken and homemade beans and potato salad.  Charlie will cook about 3 times as much chicken as we will serve and sell the rest as a additional funds raiser.

Waterman,
That shooting position is called standing rest.  We shoot at 100 yards at a traditional 25 ring German target.
Many shoot bolt guns but a good number prize our traditional rifles.  I shoot a heavy Ballard ( built on a Pacific action) rifle.  It was built after ww2 and has a left hand twist cut rifle barrel from Gregorie.  They look internally like Pope.  I shoot it with both iron sights ( Redfield Olympic) and scope(Lyman super target spot 20x).
My current offhand gun is a striker Ballard.
We shoot 4 classifications: rest scope, rest iron, off hand scope, off hand iron.  Traditional rifles shoot directly against the bolt guns.

Both are still shooting with us.  That's Vesper "Bill" Wimberley and his wife Gay.
Bill is 78 and still a very competitive shooter.

The Wimberleys almost always make the Schützenfest at Raton New Mexico and it's always enjoyable talking and shooting with them!  One year I asked Gay about the town of Wimberley and heard a great story about V. Bill's grandfather and bets on fast horses.  Grin
