40 2 1/2 Sharps Straight ( 40-70 SS)

I have an original Hepburn in 40 2 1/2" and want to blow out some 30-40 Krag brass to fit it. I will anneal the necks on the Remington brass. I know the brass will be a little short but it shouldn't be a problem as I will be breech seating. From what I have read one should use about 5 or 6 grains of Bullseye and then fill the case with Cream of Wheat. Now for my question---I don't have  Bullseye but do have IMR High Skor 700x (right next to Bullseye on the powder burn chart). Will the 700x work OK and how much?
Question #2---Do I fill the case full with the Cream of Wheat??
To hold the Cream of Wheat in the case I was going to use a floral foam wad.
I am open to all comments as this is the first time blowing out brass.

Thanks in advance

Cream of wheat has been known to clog up at the neck and cause pressure problems. When it comes to single shots I just add enough powder to blow the case out in itself. Start low and go up until the case expands to the chamber, annealing helps as well. With this method I use no fillers, just point the rifle up, load the shell as such and kaboom. Any powder in the same burn rate as Bullseye should give the same effect. Good luck.

I use 12.5 grains of Bullseye and the rest COW or corn meal to blow out 30-40 Krag to 40 SS. Less won't do it; I have it written on the wall. I did not anneal.

Don't use a wad,it will split the case.
Load the powder and put the  cow in and put  your rifle pointed straight up  to load and pull the trigger. Swab with a dry patch to get the cow out before you shoot again so it doesn't  fall on the case or it will dent it.

Do it in two stages Anneal it then shoot it with just powder to get rid of most of the shoulder. Second round use cream of wheat over the powder to finish the job.

For my Remington Hepburn in .40-50 SS I use shortened .303 British cases loaded with 8.5 grains of Nitro Trap 100 (because I have a lot of it on hand), a 1/4 sheet of toilet tissue, bulk yellow cornmeal to the case mouth, then another 1/4 sheet of toilet tissue to hold it all in place.  Point the muzzle straight up (12 o'clock) and fire-form.  Pointing the muzzle up helps to ensure that the cases form square to the chamber and not lop-sided.  I've formed about 100 plus cases so far without a single case failure or split.

Easier to just fire form them full length Art. Then trim them after that. They're long enough the necks will end up into the rifling, but that's getting trimmed off anyway. I use a cheap Harbor Freight 2" chop saw I bought just for rough cutting long cases. Once I chop them all close, I final trim them in my case trimmer.
With a 20% off coupon these are dirt cheap, and cut brass easily!

I have a Forster drill press trimmer so I shorten my .303 cases to just above the shoulder (slightly over-length), fire-form them, and then trim to final length before reloading them.
