Flash hole swage question

Print Post
Can some one describe the shape of the swage stem end to reduce the hole diameter to .062".  Does the end of the stem have a rolled lip to swage/force the brass to close up around the .062 pin?
Will be using my pocket swage die that seems to work great at reducing the pocket depth for pistol primers in rifle brass. Starting with .078+/_ holes.
thanks

Just one thing to consider with a 0.062" flash hole; de-priming is a pain.  Been there, done that, so I drilled all my cases out to original size.

Keep on hav'n fun!

I did consider that too, I just want to modify 6 or so .40-82  cases too see if there is any accuracy gain for the hassle.
thanks

I have used the same Sinclare flash hole uniformer for at least 30 years now. All it really is is a #1 Centerdrill with a shoulder to control the depth. iopens up the standard hole slightly and chanfers the inside. I have never understood the logic in a smaller hole to restrict the flash. Just doesnt make sense to me.

Interesting on the contrary, there are those who have
actually opened up flashholes to 0.090+ thinking
that might produce more consistency.
Not so for me anyways--- I cannot tell
the difference between 40-65 ( from R-P 45-70) brass
I got with rifle, that was opened up to, I think 0.095"
and the rest of the brass that did not have opened up flash holes.
Another thing is placing paper discs at bottom of case over flash hole. or punching paper discs into the primer pocket as you seat the primers.

The latter is said to help with the use of LP primers that are not as tall as LRs.
Something about avoiding having the LPs set back and marking the breechblock. Never saw it happen, even on my 40-65 with original breechblock

I'll share my experience with small flash holes in 32-40 with smokeless.  I use 30 American brass and the .062 flash holes do not shoot nearly as well as the ones I opened to .082.  Tested it several times in good conditions and have no doubt that the larger flash holes halve the size of groups from 3/4min to 3/8min.  As the "Frog" says: YMMV.
