Breech Seating 38-55

I am getting some lead, flakes only, in my 38-55 Hepburn. Did a cerosafe cast and as clos3 as I can determine the diameter across the lands is .3801 and .3795 in the grooves. I have tried two bullits so far. 1- .381 tapering to .377  2- .380 tapering to .379. Seating so that the base is marked all the way to the base. Your thoughts on this?

Might need to go up a thousandth or even two in diameter at the base, gas blowby can make a mess.

Is the throat cut for breach seat? If not are the flakes possible from shearing? Just a thought?

I used to use 30/1 Lead/Tin alloy in my rifles. Shot well and never a problem with Leading, BUT! every time I shot I would give the Rifle a wipe with Hoppy on a Patch. The first patch thru would have very small Fines of lead on the patch. Not heavy mind you but very small shiny specs. So I tried an alloy of 25/1 and they disappeared and still shot just as well so 25/1 became my alloy. HTH Regards.

I am new to this stuff and I didn’t know that the throat had to be cut for breech seating. I will try a harder allow as I have been casting 30-1.
What I am seeing when cleaning is flakes not streaks.

There is nothing that says you have to throat a barrel for breach seating, just usually works out better doing so. But there is a lot more to it than just cutting any throat. If you decide to pursue it, have it done by someone familiar with the process.
