28-30-120 bbl twist rate

Can anyone tell me the twist rate for the 28-30-120? I've been dinking around with heavier bullets using a 1-7 rate, and getting mediocre results at 200 yds. I now want to try the standard load with around 120 weight cbs. Any comments/suggestions?
I'm a total novice on this forum, so have patience with my bumbling about.         M-

My 28-30 (a probable 1st year 44-1/2 52) has a 14" twist but a larger than standard groove diameter of 0.293".  I use the Accurate 28-130B bullet cast 5% Sn and 12.5 grains IMR 4227.  It shoots in the .2s at 100 but I have not shot it at 200.

Rule of thumb to determine the bullet length for a 14 twist 28 is groove dia. X 3. The weigh is just a byproduct of the bullet length and it is what it is. It's the bullet length that is important and not the weight.

So you have a 7 twist barrel? Maybe you should be trying 150-160 grain bullets.

My 28-35SS was a 12 twist and I used 152 grain bullets. I don't remember the  bullet length but I did have extreme competitive benchrest success.

When Stevens made them, they use a 14" twist.  My Stevens shoots 120s pretty well, but Hoch 140s better.

Hock or Barry Darr FN 134 grain Pope style bullets also work great in a 14 twist. Length is .963 and weight is dependent on the alloy being used.
