HW with modification - what's it for? (Read 3813 times)

	Hello All, Come into some interesting HWs & LW recently...more details later. First off here's a HW in .25/20 SS with a 32" #3 oct barrel in great condition, nice to see one with most of the CC on the action. Set up for off-hand shooting and the forearm is drilled to take a palm rest. Also has these two strange lugs dovetailed into the barrel. They are threaded so designed to have something screwed into them. Front one is 7" back from the muzzle. What are they for? To hang additional weights on the barrel? That 32" #3 is heavy enough as it is and holds nicely with the Swiss plate. Any thoughts.....? Spud

	Was fitted to a machine rest at some point. Very nice rifle. How does it letter? moodyholler

	A machine rest...OK, hadn't thought of that option. What do they look like? Currently waiting on letter but told matches ledger including palm rest (missing...but I'm sure I can find one). Also barrel is marked 25 WCF & as that in the ledger too but so many of the early .25/20 SS were. Thanks. Spud

	Spud, You run into some nice stuff down under? Maybe it's due to your climate, but they sure seem to be in nice condition. Glad to see you made it through the fires okay?

	Did these come out of SA. As you probably know being largely German settled there were more Schuetzen style clubs there compared to the rest of Oz. I've picked up a couple nice rifles out of there.
