We have about 3 to 4 inches of snow, so i did not go out to the shop yet. found some old pictures to share. this is a #1 Remington in 40-70 SS with a heavy barrel. I put DST and side lever and double extractors. Felt like shooting a 22.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Looks like a nice conversion to side lever too!

Look closer it is a #1 rolling block. Pics are not the best. I used a side lever from a 1881 Deely and edge.

Yes, I know it's a #1 Rolling Block. Just admired the side lever conversion. That is a side lever conversion isn't it? Or is it just a thumb rest?

Yes it is a functioning side lever. I welded a copy of a 1881 Westly- Richards lever to the pin that is keyed to the b block. Makes it more durable than a set screw, that I tried at first.

Rodney..... You just answered my question I was about to ask and that was how did you connect the lever and block. I did one years ago with the set screw. How did you do it?

Johnny,
I cut a small key way in the b block and a key way the full length of the pin. Cut the key to fit the block and while it is in the block slide the pin in. Attach the lever and I use a big headed screw on the off side to hold it all together. Hope that is understandable.
