Shoe polish?

Print Post
Recently at a match, shooter was having leading problems at about five rounds. Rather than clean every five he used my ammo. Rifle shot very well rest of the match.

Effected shooter told me he was trying Alberta Schuetzen lube for the first time and that it had shoe polish in it. It was dark and waxy.

Anyone ever heard of that? Shoe polish?

I was told The shoe polish is suppose to just add color to make bullet holes stand out better. Did he say how fast he was pushing his loads?

I was spotting for him. Bullet holes looked like other bullet holes. No darker.

Straight BP load. 38-55.

I have tried coloring lube to darken bullet holes.  I have never found it mattered much.  No real improvement over my beeswax and mineral oil marks.

So Joe
Did you notice his shoes?   Were they shiny?

I used to let my granddaugters toss crayons into my melted lube to color it. They thought it was a lot of fun. Then I switched to Alberta Schutzen lube and stopped diddling with the stuff. But, maybe your fellow shooter was having a granddaughter moment when he did it to his ASL.

Guess those bullets go through the target so fast they can't slow down to mark around the holes!

I have often used lipstick on bullets to mark the holes.   Works even with 3000 fps spitzers.   It enables one to discriminate between different loads fired on the same target.  It also generates snide comments.

The AAF used to shoot painted bullets from fighters' guns at towed target sleeves.  Several pilots could use the same target that way.

I’ve done the same with painted tips, we were testing 30mm chaingun experimental mounts and wanted to know which rounds in a burst were going where. Worked great
