the rifle sells in 2014, missing tools turn up at the same auction house 6 years later.

Amoskeag should be ashamed of them selves for seperating the tools from the gun. Whats next take off the palm rest and sell it separately? Maybe they could take it apart and sell all the parts separately. this is a shameless attempt to get more money out of a collection. Im not singling out Amoskeag all the auction houses do it and its WRONG.
THE SHOOTING KIT IS PART OF THE GUN.

So let's play CSI - AUCTION HOUSE. The rifle once belonged to Warren Greatbatch sometime during the period of his ownership and the rifle's sale the pope tang sight was removed. The tools coming up on auction were not in his photo in his book. Where were they for almost 4 years or more ? Gary Quinlan could probably shed some light on this. I am in no way implying something nefarious in the situation. I'll never own such a rifle I just think it's a shame the whole shooters kit isn't with the rifle. The auction house is under no obligation to reunite the pieces, it isn't like "we have a lost child in isle 17" at Walmart. The rifle's buyer is listed as onsite. That's a dead end. The most I can do is hope the rifle's owner sees this post. I also sent a message to the auction house.

Less than 20 minutes after sending the auction house a msg I got this reply:
Hey Tim,

Your email was forwarded to me by the office; thank you for your inquiry.
I’m fairly certain that they are withdrawing that lot, it was brought up last week, I am just not sure of the process or how long it takes.   Jason recognized the tools from that sale.
Thank you for your diligence though,

Ballards may be weaker,

I wonder where the rest of the kit is that was with the gun when it was photographed for Warren's book? On page 178 of his book it shows a box with mold, powder measure, bullets, and a few misc. items. If they separated these other tools, did the box with other tools not get to the auction, or did they get sold elsewhere?

Not always the fault of Amoskeag. A friend and I once went for a Pope Ballard that had no Breech Block lever or extractor. But it did have the false Muzzle. We looked it over and It was a 32-40 with a bright Shiny bore. So we bought it at Auction. I forget the price but it was reasonable. On talking with a friend from Maine he looked it over and told us the source. It was owned by a retired Submarine Captain who owned a Gunsmith business and the last time he saw it the innards were in a cigar Box in the shop. It had a self setting set trigger by a California guy for the period. So we went back to Amoskeag and asked. They looked through the stuff from that shop and found the Cigar Box
with the innards. We tried to buy it direct but were refused as it was part of an estate and they were required to sell it at Auction. So we had to go back and bid for the parts in the Silent Auction. And make sure we got it we now had to bid High. We got it and I was able to fix the Set Trigger system to make it a complete working Rifle. It has a Bremer trigger.  It is in the Greatbatch book, and is Hartford Pope # 10. A very early Rifle.
The Book says it has a Ruined Bore but when we cleaned it up it turned out to have bright shiny bore that was full of very old Cosmoline and dust, very hard, took a lot of time to get it cleaned. A lot of collections and their stuff do not all show up at the same time. And in the past I have seen descriptions of equipment to be all wrong. Such as. A Pope Muzzle Loading rod described as a "Wiping Rod" Hope this helps. FITZ, OLD TUCK Smiley

The lot has been withdrawn. I've done what I can. Hopefully either the owner sees this, one of you know the owner or the Auction house tracks down the owner. I really would like to know the outcome.
