New eBay Ballard Stock

There was a thread in the for sale section showing an eBay auction for a Ballard buttstock with prong butt plate.  I was the winner.  I tried it on my existing 32-40 Ballard.  Probably going to look for a new rifle to use it on eventually.

That looks pretty nice, Jack!  Does it fit your face?

Joe,

I am having plastic surgery to make my face fit. Cheesy Grin Smiley Tongue

It is not too bad as is.  Makes for a very consistent face plant!

Jack, it looks like you've got a lot of wood to work with there, so you could "improve" that stock quite a bit. Now, what sort of wood is that? It almost looks like cocobolo or koa.

I tried to alert Forum members to this stock only to have my entry inexplicably deleted.  But I'm glad someone here found it!

Thanks, John,

Bob, I wouldn't know Koa or cocobolo wood if I saw it.  I can lick it and see if it tastes like coco Smiley

Jack,

Don't lick cocobolo wood, I think it's poisonous, although I'm not sure how poisonous it is. I've used it for forend tips and inserts for Ballard #6 levers in place of epony. It's nice 'cause you don't have to varnish it, you just polish it.

Yes, I think you can buy Cocobola pistol grips. If you work with Cocobola wood you're supposed wear a resperator, 'cause some folks are allergic to it, so you don't want the sawdust in your lungs.

Yes, and of course the wood was named after him when he did such great work with it! Wink
