For a while in the 70’s there was a lot of chatter about Bill Ruger and the likelihood of a new #1 or #3 being released in 444. Frank de Hass was almost promoting this offering but it never came. All these years and a natural rimmed straight wall cartridge like this was avoided in falling blocks that were chambered in almost everything. Nobody has ever explained why this is though Ken French who ran production at TC Arms told my old friend the wildcatter Wes Ugalde that there was bad blood between Bill Ruger and somebody at Marlin ? True or false who knows but there is a very strong stubborn motive that I believe.

Nice classic rug back there. Since your handle is the trading post do you have a Burntwater to go with it?

Check with “The Bull Shop” in Dell MT. He sells on gunbroker as “Bullet Man Dan”.

He has a bullet that is sold as for a 41 Swiss. It’s around 350-375  grains. 430 diameter and is a postal type. He will cast for blackpowder, so if it is listed as hardcast you might have to contact him.

Prices are reasonable.

Time reworked a Numeric Buffalo 444M last year. It shoot a group at 50 yards that was typical for me. So I decided to put some time and a little $ (sights mostly). I turned the barrel to a #4 half round and replaced the wood with a PG stock that i took off another tifle. I polished the receiver and sent it to Al Springer for case color. That took off a little weight. I haven't shot it since I finish it.

Bill that is a nice looking rifle and I’m curious how it shoots and what it shoots. What is the barrel twist and what does it slug at. Let us know how your loads develop and what works.

I'm not sure on the twist . I shot it at 50 yards with 310 gr Lee to see if it was worth putting time and money into it. It shot a group without any keyhole and to point of aim with the sights that came on it. I wondered because it was .045 out at the muzzle .  I turned the barrel chucking on the threads and  live center at the muzzle.
The gruve diameter if I remember correctly is .430. I was shooting the Lee bullet as cast, pan lube and dont remember the powder. I'm not sure who made barrels for Numeric Buffalo Rolling Block's , 6 gruve clock wise twist. I have a 1/2 dozen 44 molds so I should have something it will like.

Next spring!
Bill
