FWIW, here are pics of my Gredag find. Its the stickiest and blackest grease I have ever seen. One of the numerous “dag” products available in the day.

To Bob Z, When I first made the Lube I used everything in that original list with Powdered Graphite. The Powdered Graphite settled out to about 1/4" on the bottom. With the little experimenting I did I could not determine a problem but was bothered/concerned. Then I found the statement he had made about using Oildag. Found Acheson and was able to get  reasonable price in 1 Pint cans. Got a Bunch of shooters to say they would like to try it.
So I bought a case of 12. They sold out immediately, had to hold one back for myself. Still had guy's asking so ordered another case of 12. Sold about 8 cans and then it fell off. With time a few more were sold and I now have one full and one, my original, partially used. The formulae does not use a lot. and I have in a few cases portioned out enough for someone to make a batch. Some like it and some are non Committal either way. I like it and use it for all my Lubricating. Straight Black, Duplex Black, and all smokeless Loading. Here again all my efforts are Offhand and I am satisfied. Does not make my results a final word in any way. Would take a real Bench shooter to define better or not. I do own some really fine condition Rifle's. A Pope 38-55. a Schoyen 33-40. A Zischang 38-55. And a quantity of Sharps rifles LR, MR, SR, What I do know is that when I have one of my really good let offs the Bullet usually lands right where I called it. This indicates to me that I have a good Rifle, It is sighted in, and the Zero is right on.
Unfortunately those types of holds and let offs are getting lesser and lesser now day's. HTH Regards FITZ. OLD TUCK Smiley
P.S. The current batch is about 10 years old. It shows no sign of Biologic failure. I do keep it in Butter tubs in a Vegetable draw in the Refrigerator.
But that which is in the top Double Boiler pot is at Room Temperature. And shows no problems from one use to another. FITZ OLD TUCK Smiley

SBommer, That Gredag you found makes me wonder if the Dag part has something to do with what they did to make the graphite stay in suspension. There has to be an issue unanswered to make a German firm recently buy the product from Acheson and still producing it. Although in large quantities only. Fifty Five Gallon size. Maybe keeping it to themselves?? FITZ. OLD TUCK Smiley

OLD TUCK, I remember calling offhand shots like that.  When Ol' Shelton used to spot for me, once in a while he would say I was a point off or maybe a clock point.  Them wuz the days    Cry  I hated it when I would say something like 21 at 2 and he would say 20, but it was OK if he said 22  Grin

My interest in Pope Lube for the Pope barrel is having to let all lubes age for a year to get top accuracy.  When the slick feeling goes away, the bullets will go into one ragged hole at 200 yards.  Fresh lube will almost stay in the 25 ring if I do my part.

Schuetzenmeister, Yea! those were OUR good old day's. I still get them once in a while but no where near as often any more. I call them my "Hail Mary Day's Now" Rifle settles, feels good, seems to be standing still, and when it goes off I am surprised, and my follow through feels right. When I get that kind of shot the bullet hole shows up right where I last saw the Cross Hairs.
They just do not happen as often as before. Got out a lighter Rifle last night. never shot it much as it seemed to light. A ten Pound 38-55 But it is a Zishang Borchardt. Not a double set But a fine Rifle. I only shot it enough when I first got it to know it would put them right where you Aimed. But it was just too whippy for me. I was then used to shooting #4, & #5 weight Barrels. Going to try it again tomorrow in our 200Yd Match. Pan lubed 50 Bullets and loaded the cases with 16.5 Gr 4759. See if my 15 year old Zero is still there. Wish me luck. Happy New Year. FITZ, OLD TUCK Smiley

Good luck and Happy New Year!

I was demonstrating flintlock years ago for a shooting class the club did for high schoolers. Flint requires follow through  Grin  One target I shot at a ML match had a possible of 50, I only scored 49  Cry There was a 2 or 3 second delay as the flint, steel and pan debated whether to fire it or not. They finally did fire it.   Cheesy  the 49 surprised me on that one.  Any way, one of the members was photographing the class. He caught me with the pan igniting.  I had always wondered, there it was, both eyes wide open  Roll Eyes

I sort of suspected they would be.  At a Halloween night shoot I did not do do well.  I had no night vision to see the sights.    Embarrassed

I know what you mean about the rifle getting a bit heavy.  My .33-47 is 16.5 pounds.  I am beginning to wonder how I shot the 100 shot and a few other offhand matches with it in a single day with a 20x scope. Moving down to a 12x and giving up shooting the 36x on the .22.

A few nights ago I had a nightmare.   My wobble are was inside the 25 ring, but the rifle would not fire. It would not be cocked.  The trigger would not be set.  Fired primer wasn't changed. Forgot the bullet.  Forgot the power.  It went on and on.  The rifle never fired! I hope it was a night mare and not a premonition.  Undecided
