In a pinch I set a pie plate with some previously used 50/50 lube, with new bullets in the holes, on top of my electric lead pot. I kept a close eye on it and it worked to perfection.

Old Tuck, you will probably remember the last time you and your son shot with us at Charlie Dell's place.  Somebody walked through the kitchen in the evening as we were preparing for the next day.  They noticed lube being melted in the microwave.  Your son said something to the effect that nowhere else in the world would that seem normal!

Happy New Year everybody.

Frog, I don't remember Jim mentioning that. But you have to remember he spent his whole life watching me use the Double Boiler system. He also watched a number of shooting buddies of mine doing the same. Now we were all products of the same guy, now passed. He was not a adamant teacher but he did get his point across. Jim is now  Professor at UVA in Charllottsville V A.
And his field is Material Science. He and I have had some discussions on Lead/Tin alloys. And he did make me aware of some issues I had never thought about. I did bring it up here once but got no response or interest so let it fall by the side. Regards FITZ. OLD TUCK Smiley Hope you have had a Happy Holiday season and are looking forward to a Happy New Year. FITZ. Wink
I do however remember the time when he was down range Marking the Schuetzen King target when the Black bear came right out on the Range at about the 100 yd Line. that got his attention. FITZ. Shocked

Since Jim has reached professor level @ UVa you definitely need to come down more often to celebrate and of course shoot with us!  Wink

Put the last Friday and Saturday in June on your calendar.

What was the thread about on lead alloy concerns?  I must have missed that altogether while I was “out sick.”  Embarrassed

Just to get back on topic for the thread... when I use the microwave, I use a two cup Pyrex glass measuring cup and set the oven to 50% temp and 2 minutes time.  I then watch it and add more time as needed, but stop as soon as the last lumps dissolve.  This is with Emmert’s lube, the only one I use to pan lubricate bullets.  Cool

I’ve also used the double boiler method, but I get impatient sometimes!  Roll Eyes

Here is a picture of my Double Boiler and I once had two I gave the other to a Friend. You don't come across them all that often and I don't now recall how I came across the two.

John I have just about the same exact Double Boiler Coffee maker as near as I can tell. Bought it well used at a Yard sale many years ago. Have purchased a few others but once I made my decision to use Pope lube exclusively gave the others away. I melt on a Gas stove and have never hurt a Batch of Pope Lube. Happy New Year JOHN. Start bullets laying down.
Melt lube, cake pan in frying pan with water.
Standem up with tweezers.
Cool.
Pushem out, thumbs.
Lube back in cake pan.
Bullets in holes.
Cake pan in frying pan.
It's so easy, children can do it. Mine did.
