I get mine at the local grocery store in the dishwasher soap section. It's a spot reducing additive and is mainly citric acid.

I use a tablespoon of Purple power in my wet rotary tumbler, and it speeds up cleaning. Cheaper than anything else too at $5 a gal at Walmart. I initially bought it to degrease engine bays or blocks on my car builds. Gave it a try in the tumbler and it's great there too.

Sorry to drift off topic, but you caught my interest with your comment "I initially bought it to degrease engine bays or blocks on my car builds" ... what sort of car builds?  Day to day drivers?  Vintage restorations?  Hot rods?  Muscle cars?  Just curious ...

The version of Lemishine you want for brass cleaning is the Lemishine dish detergent booster.  It is basically citric acid which also works very well in a rotary tumbler.

I found that the citric acid used to can tomatoes worked better (and cheaper) than anything else.

This is the one I use ... got it at my nearby Canadian Tire store.  I bought 2 containers and that is likely a lifetime supply since it takes very little per load to get great results.  (About 1/2 teaspoon.)

Don't tell anybody, but once I went to a carwash that had "engine degreaser" on the selection dial and filled about three gallons in the time $2 got me.
Worked great for parts soaking!

I used Lemishine for a while but then just ended up buying a couple pounds of citric acid.
More than a lifetime supply even when using it to make extra sour lime-aides like Dairy Queen used to make or making whiskey sours.

That's hilarious, and certainly a sign of times past! I recall those car washes with degreaser, and their demise as environmentalists halted the possibility of grease going down the drains. I miss it, but understand it wasn't a very good practice.

I use an ultrasonic cleaner with Dawn and a shot of lemon juice. My wife buys it by the quart. My brass comes out much cleaner that just with the Dawn.
