25-35 Update
Oct 29th, 2019 at 1:06pm
Print Post
Sometime back someone had asked if a 25-35 could be competitive in benchrest Schuetzen. I had also mentioned I would update the progress on the one I just put together for myself. I still have a ways to go to get everything it has to offer out of it but I am getting closer. Below are two 200yd. load development targets shot back to back. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

John are those Lead  Bullet loads or Jacketed? They are about what I would have expected from the two factory 25-35s I owned. But I never shot them from Bench. But I do know that when I had a good let off and follow through

John,
Mighty pretty results for "load development".  Sure looks like you have it right. I notice with interest the 1:16 - no leading, I'll bet. Have you tried 1:20? Any velocities yet?
Cheers!

Well you're certainly no CW Rowland. If you know Jerry Hartwig you should have him give you some pointers about BR shooting and load development. Or have Jerry shoot the rifle for you. He's a real good shot. I think he's in your area.

John my Rifles were original Winchester and the bore was really nice But thetwist looked like Lead Screw, very fast. My only effort with .25 calibers was about 1962 when I bought a Pre 64 M70 Winchester tried lead.
brand new in .257 Roberts just for the fun of it. Could not find the paper.
Kept trying, no luck. Finally asked the Chief Range Officer if I could walk onto the siting in Target they had at 25 Yds. and shooting at it until I hit it? There was nobody else shooting so he gave me permission. Well I did not hit until I was about Five feet away, and that was not a Bullet hole but a fine spray, the Bullets were disintegrating when they exited the Muzzle. Now at the time I was using Linotype and or Electrotype. The loads were not very stiff but the Alloy may just have been to hard to deal with it. So from that when many years later when I got into Single Shots I never even considered Lead. Now this was just one of those things. You just get a sour Taste and give up
FOREVER! HA! Good luck with your effort, I am sure you will find your way.
Regards, FITZ. OLD TUCK Smiley

He might, eventually. Think it be no shame reaching out to someone who has had real certifiable success. For certain will save an awful lot of lead primers and powder.

Great shooting John. I will be hunting whitetails this year with my 44 1/2 in 25/35win. Fun combo. I topped it with a vintage K3 with post and crosshair reticle. Its a quick shouldering rig for still-hunting.

John, Looks like your rifle is preforming well enough to hunt whitetails.

Its getting abit closer to being there BobZ and being one who has never had an interest in ever wanting to shoot a 25 it's turning out to be quite an enjoyable learning experience.
