Might help if you listed the caliber.

That is quite different from Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook 4th Edition. It only has loads for the 25-20 Win, but says not for use in old rifles so these are the hotter ones. For the 85 grain bullet and 4198 it lists 8.3 grains for 1270 fps and 17k pressure and 9.2 grains for 1500 fps and 23k pressure. I would think that 8.6 grains with a 90 grain bullet is entirely reasonable and in a good ballpark for accuracy.

Running this through my Quick Load gives me numbers that don't match up with the book data. The 25-20 SS may just be one of those unusual cartridges. One thing that has me guessing is the Pmax is listed at 28001 psi and that seems a bit high but in the ballpark for the Hodgdon data. Is this data for the SS or the WCF?

For 8.6 grains of H-4198 and the Lyman 89 grain GC it calculates 11664 Pmax but only 64.8% efficiency. 10 grains equals 16814 psi and efficiency goes to 72.6% Interesting but really not enough inputs to get anything usable. ratseye
