Stevens Model 44 Picture Thread

Thought we should have a Stevens Model 44 picture thread where everyone can post pic's of their Model 44. Put yours up and let us know about same.

Purchased mine from a pawnshop in VA a couple of months ago as I needed a rifle that is legal for shooting .22BPCR (50/100/150/200m silhouette). Best thinking is that was made in 1920. Original half-round .22LR barrel that has been lined. Appears to be a good shooter (see targets) with an MVA B5 scope (not shown). Have the original blade, barrel and Lyman 106 sights, but those are a Lyman 77 and MVA 130 w/Hadley eye-cup shown. Has as good a 3# trigger as I've ever pulled. Needs no work. Several of us were shooting it off-hand with the open sites at the Ridgway Eastern Regional BPCR match last weekend and was no problem hitting the chickens at 200m. Have a .22BPCR the 1st Sunday in Oct and 200yd reduced target mid-range match at the end of Oct to see how it does. Some practice and ammo testing and it should be ready to go. A thoroughly delightful rifle.

Mine is nothing remarkable, but has an interesting feature at the muzzle. It's threaded for a suppressor, and is equipped with a thread cover. What is just a bit more interesting, is that they are interrupted threads, so the device went on with a mere half rotation. Given the age of the rifle, I would presume this was for an original Maxim suppressor.

Needs to be relined, and the minor diameter of the threads may make that a bit of a challenge, but I don't want to shorten the barrel.

Jim - what cartridge (32-40?) is your Model 44?

Model 44 in .25-20SS with an interesting set of Canadian mfg sights by "Watson" of Niagara Falls.  Good bore.  I'm working at accumulating enough brass to feed this rifle and my 1882 Maynard in .25-20SS.  (Another 35 rounds JUST arrived in today's mail!)  Have about 100ish cases so far ... and a lead on 50ish more through a local gunsmith.

I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't quite reached my "Expiry" date yet ...
