I had never heard of the now defunct Ballard Rifle Company building a Remington Rolling Block rifle until I came across this 2004 post card from my friend Charlie Hart's estate.

Here is a 2nd post card.  Undated, but I assume later as it doesn't have a postage see stamp on it, more like a mass mailing .

They may have produced little or none of the Rolling Blocks since that's the year I seem to recall BRC was sold. If so the new owner in Michigan sure didn't produce any.

The second card is marked "Ballard Rifle And Cartridge" which would predate the first as it is before the cartridge side was spun off. I wish someone would put together a  article on the Cody Ballard timeline. Would be an interesting read. Wishful thinking.

At least a dozen or two were made. Saw one for sale within the last 6 months or so.

Was 2004 before or after Higgunbotham started Lone Star?

The 2004 post card has a first class stamp on it and it is cancelled out of Oklahoma City, OK where as the other is a bulk mail with a Cody permit.  It is very strange that the later post card was done with a less sophisticated mailing system.  It also seems strange to me that it has the Oklahoma City postmark.

I believe one of the part owners lived in Oklahoma City, and he may have handled mailings?

I believe the earliest known Lone Star rifles were dated 1993. Dave died in May 2011.

I think maybe for the very short time the rolling blocks were offered or talked about, Dan Zimmerman and Kelly ? somebody were involved in Oklahoma City.   I'm not sure if it really ever got off the ground.

Here is what Kelly McNitt said (owner of Ballard at the time these were made).  "We built 12 rolling blocks.  All the parts were like the originals and would inter fit with original Remington Rolling blocks.  Neal Rice built all of them himself.  If you were a rolling block collector, it would be a jewel in the collection!"

A good person for writing that article would be Steve Garbe. He knows the history well, right up to today's Wyoming Armory (believe George Dillman is the current owner and Keith Kilby one of the gunsmiths). Steve Durren was a gunsmith for Ballard Rifle for some time after it moved to MI.

I occasionally shot with Charlie Hart, and he had a VERY NICE Sharps Borchardt, which I think Charlie had built himself and it had Zischang double set triggers. I know I'm getting off the track here but here's a pic of SPG;  Tongue
