Although I'm amazed that someone would go to such extremes to fake a Rigby barrel, I'll bow to Vall's superior knowledge.

But like CptCurl, my thought on seeing the "28 C" stamp on the barrel flat was that the rifle might be chambered for .28-30.  If so, since the .28-30 was introduced circa 1900, that alone would make the barrel's originality suspect, right?  Or was there an earlier .28 centerfire "wildcat" floating around?

Not with a 309 caliber bullet

Since we don't know anything about the bore size or the chamber shape and size, the ".309" note will have to be stowed away for future reference, though it may yet prove crucial.

The reworked "Rigby" went for $4500! Crazy price for a gun far from original in many ways. Especially considering the markup on top of the closing price!

Perfect example basing gun values on past auctions. Some uneducated buyers out there driving prices in the wrong direction weather up or down.

"So they think they really cut a fat hog"?  LOL  I'd never heard that quote / term before so I had to go look it up online.
