Color Case Hardened

I need some help boys. I just purchased a 1885 Winchester .17 Mach2. The Color Case Hardened is pretty worn and I would like to have it redone. I had a shotgun re-blued at Ahlmans and was looking to have them do the Color Case Hardened work as well. Any suggestions on an outfit that does good work for what I'm looking for? I would appreciate any help I can get, thanks.

Al Springer at Snowy Mountain Bluing. Best around, and reasonable prices. He's in Moore, Mt., and has a web site.

Another good one is Wyoming Armory at Cody, Wyoming. Very reasonable and fast.

Color Caseing is funny stuf, Everybody's got a different formuls and technique and they all look quite different. Before you get it done either see or get pictures of the smith's work. Maybe I'm too picky but all of Keith's stuff from Wyoming armory looks way too yellow for my taste, Doug Turnbull's looks to blue Don Minks , especially his Ballards way too blue. I like the jobs that I have seen from to Dan’s Gunsmithing in Woodsbay Montana and I also like Steve Durren's work but thats me decide what you want to see from some samples or photos.

Well said, 40 Rod. Mike Hunter has a slightly different style that I personally like.

Just to show different styles: Mike Hunter's work.
Strickly a matter of taste
