Went past my high bid, so I'm out now. Hope somebody else wants it, or is willing to go for it, plus the 26% auction fee! It's at least $650 now without the fee.

Nope, there was no Pope rifle.  Also, I've never known Amoskeasg to separate accessories from guns.  Last, set sold for a hammer price of $1300 or a bit more than $1638 when all extra charges beyond the 26 % premium are added.

Bill I respectfully disagree with you. I have found them separating outfits. I have suspected a couple of times their " Expert Appraiser "? guy did not know 
his stuff. Once described a Pope rifle Muzzle loading rod as a wiping rod. When they sold off a bunch of Warren Greatbatch Rifles there was 6 Zipplock
baggies of Pope and Schoyen molds four or five to a bag in the silent auction and one tagged as a zischang. A friend of mine went for them all and bid high to make sure he got them, he got 5 bags. I bought a Pope Highwall fairly cheap and it turned out to be a 33-40 and there was a .33 caliber mold in the batch that fits it beautifully. On another Auction there was a Schalk Muzzle loading rifle and I found the Palm rest that belonged to it in the Silent Auction. Brought it to Jason's attention and he ignored me and that outfit got split up.
And this outfit we are talking about more than likely went with something that may have been sold in another Auction or will be sold in a future Auction. Sorry to be so negative but I have seen or observed some things there that is just disturbing. Regards, FITZ. OLD TUCK Smiley

This breaking up of shooter's guns and kits is done all the time, and not just by this outfit. I bought a Pope rifle in Denver, and after buying it I spent some time visiting with the seller and asking questions about where the gun had come from, and how he came to own it? The longer we talked, the more he opened up, and eventually told me he had some items under the table that I might be interested in. He reached under the table and pulled out a fitted case that was for the gun, and accessories. Then reached under and came up with a cigar box full of tools that went with the gun.
Had I shook his hand and walked away, those items would have been separated from the gun forever. A few months later he contacted me through the email address I gave him to tell me he'd gotten some other items. I bought the previous owner's shooting records, plus a bunch of brass, and other pieces that went with the gun.

Auction houses are, of course, a business and their objective is to make money.  Therefore, having seen the same buyer pay more in total for individual set components than he surely would have had they still been together, I'm hardly surprised that the depravities being spoken of here do happen, and more often than not.

Bill, I might agree with that except for this reason. They could describe the accessories and their item # and say up front these will be coming up for sale.
Or even have them listed in sequence for bid. But in order to do that you would have to care. But, if it's all about the $$$ who cares? FITZ.

FITZ, I think that frequently the auction house gets a bunch of rifles and a big box of tools, and has no idea what goes with what.  I suspect that in some cases, the owner doesn't even know what goes with what.  Some of our collections are not as organized as they could/should be.  I'm trying to remedy that deficiency in my own collection, i.e. clear notes saying this box of tools goes with that gun.
