GREETINGS! Can anyone identify this buttstock?

I am hoping someone out there can help me identify who may have made this buttstock for my Win.1885.  I picked this up several years ago and got it lettered through Cody as original from 1894 with #4, 1/2 Oct, 30" barrel, set trigger and sights.
It doesn't mention pistol grip stock and it looks like a Schoyen buttplate to me.  Any Ideas???

Can't help with who made the stock but a beautiful 1885. What caliber ? Boy, you sure like Marlin lever actions. Nice collection.  Dale.

to my eye, the stock has much more of a perch-belly than the Stevens.

And the Stevens buttplate has a tang, though the 1885's plate may have been modified to simplify the inletting.

In any case, a very handsome rifle!

Welcome to the forum! Like your 1893 takedowns too! The stock appears to be an old replacement and has been there a long time. Certainly a professional job both in stock making and Checkering too. Could be a Schoyen/Peterson, not as much perch belly as some. There were other schuetzen era gunsmiths like Zettler. It looks more like some his stocks, but that’s a guess.

I'd bet that it all came from Winchester. Somebody got one with no PG. Ya pay yer money and they build it.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I don't think the stock or the lower tang came from Winchester. It's not bent to the same curve as original Winchester 1885 pistol grip lower tangs were bent. And certainly not straight lower tang either.
Appears to be very high level work to shape the tang and build the buttstock, so likely one of the better stock makers. Not sure Schoyen's stockmaker (Henry Simmons) did it, as I've not seen his work on guns without Schoyen barrels. But suppose it is possible.
Either way it's a gorgeous rifle!

Thank you all for your input.  The caliber is 38/55 and it is a blast to shoot.  I'm still looking for an original breach bullet seater if anyone has one for sale.

Vall is right. I didn't really look too well at the lower tang shape. It is 'different'. Beautiful rifle, and sure happy to hear it gets a little shootin' too. Smiley
