Great picture! Interesting that it appears to be a fairly old picture and the #4 is already well worn finish. Must have been a well loved rifle!

The finish if probably much nicer than you seem to believe. The longer exposure of the old photos sometimes/often 'drank up' enough reflected light to make metal items seem to be bright. There is a photograph of Custer with his Indian scout, Bloody Knife. In it the indian is holding a Colt revolver that looks positively nickled. It wasn't. Just one example, if you go looking there are scads of them similarly pictured.

I wonder if Miss Roller's great grand daughter has ever had a rifle in her hands?   Undecided  Tom

Now that's my kind of pin-up!  Plus, based on how she holds the rifle and herself, I'd guess she was a very good shooter.

It looks like Miss Roller and the babe from the Haight-Ashbury Schuetzen Verein might be the same person.

There is a vague resemblance between the two and Miss Roller does appear to be adept at handling a rifle.  But their ears look different to me, plus a lady with pierced ears almost always has something in them, which Miss Roller does not.
