Great thread I'm learning from!  I am about to start reloading .25-20 SS myself, here a year later.  I just bought an Ideal reloading tool with a mold.  Will see if that works.  I'm wondering how tightly the Ideal will size, but will find out.  Seemed a cheap way to get started.

I was not aware that Reverend Al has passed on. Sad to hear, and more so for those that called him friend. My condolences.  Krag

Ideal tong tools don't size at all.

Aren't the self-adjusting pin at the rear of the top handle and the hole underneath for sizing the newly-cast bullet?

I know.  The brass has already been reloaded/sized before, it's used.  Will try to find at least one case that works.  Mostly wanted the bullet mold, but if I can use it for a few, that's good too.

Ideal tools only size the muzzle for seating bullets, not full length. Difficult to get enough leverage to full length size in a compact tool such as the ideal tools.

I am very sorry to hear that.  I traded a few items with him and really enjoyed discussing ideas with him.  I would love to hear about his collection in heaven! rkba2nd wrote on Feb 2nd, 2021 at 1:55pm:

The SR and the SP, primers and primer pockets, have the same dimensions.

The LR & LP have slightly different length & depth dimensions.

I agree with frank. I've shot 1000s upon
1000s small pistol in 22 hornet and not damaged a breech or bolt face.I've done the same with LP primers in 45-70 trapdoor loads with unique and can't find any damage in the same rifle the last 35 years.
I use sp in my 25-20 44 exclusively.

I have seen more than one breech block face ruined by use of LP primers in LR pockets. Kermit Hoke used to make a swagging tool to reduce the depth of LR to LP.
