That's not bad. Once the holes fill in with lead you won't know they're there;-) Did you check the length of your chamber? Will a 38-55 case chamber or does it stop just a bit short like Vall's did?

I tried a 2.08" 38-55 and it will close on it with some pressure but I had to knock it out with a cleaning rod rather than stress the extractor.  There was a 2" long 38-55 was on my bench and it fit easy so I'm still going to do a chamber cast and see what it actually measures.
