38-50 Remngton brass question

Is there an available brass that could be a parent case for forming my own 38-50 Remington brass?  405 Win maybe?

30-40 Krag is the proper case. Rem cases are generally favored as the parent case IMO. If Rem cases are not available, Midway USA has a brand in stock that also works. Cases can be full length sized in a .38-50 Rem Hep die, then use a .32 or .358 expander plug followed by a .375 plug. You may need to anneal between expander plugs but you will need to try a few to find out for sure. You will still need to fireform but that can be done with the same bullet you will be using for your rifle.
The 405 Win rim is too thick.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

Thanks guys.  I am a great believer in annealing when resizing.  Will try it.

Just personal experience, Had better luck expanding the neck before annealing to keep from collapsing the shoulder.
Step expanding might be different. Lube is critical.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Ditto what Chuck said! I tried annealing first when using the same brass to make my .40-50SS cases, and lost cases. I stopped and went to just expanding them, and annealing afterwards and never lost another case.

Chuck, Vall & QB.  Advice taken.  I have never tried expanding a bottleneck.  Did not know about collapsing the shoulder.  Thanks.
