Need help with design of a mold .I need to buy a mold for a 28-30 14 twist rifle .   Will be breech seating . Wondering max length and wt. that a 14 twist will shoot well with and do well in the wind.
Any suggestions as to mold maker who does semi-pointed bullets.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I'm using a Saeco .284 145 gr. mold for my Pope .28 caliber. The Saeco Bullet Mold #070 284 works very well in my barrel, and is also easily breech seated. It's not a true spitzer shape, as it has a small flat metplat, but pretty close to a spitzer shape.

Hoch also made a 134 grain Pope style nose pour that would work quite well. Might check with CPA to see if they might still have one in stock. A friend picked one up from them not to long back for use in his Darr and it shot very well.

Dale,
This is a drawing of my Darr 28 cal mold. I'm sure it was designed for a 14 twist, since it is only .94 long. It could be easily lengthened .020 - .040, adding 3.5 gr to 7 gr and still be well stabilized.

I also have a drawing of the scaled up Mos mold, based on Jerry H's mold. It's 1.0 long and would need to be shortened .030-.040 for a 14 twist.

What is your groove size?

Dale the reason I ask is about a year ago I re-cut a Lyman Mould for a Friend's 28-30 Darr and he requested that I cut the somewhat of Pope copy at .861 long which put it around 132 grains with 20-1. The bullet he was using wouldn't stabilize fully so he asked me to make one at his requested length. He has since reported back that the bullet shoots good and the stabilization issue has now been resolved.

Here is the cherrie I made and used to try and help him out.

This is another option, depending on if your groove diameter is .287 or smaller, you can machine down the mold, cutting the GC off of a RCBS 145 gr Sil mold. If the groove is .287, open the base band to .288, after shorting it.

You would also need to have the bore size no larger than .278, to support the bore riding nose.

This drawing is based on my RCBS mold, with a .095 base band and a .085 GC shank.

My Barrel slugs .285 . I do have an old Lyman gas check mold , seems like it is about 135 grain I could open base up just does not look like a proper Schuetzen bullet.
I do like the look of the Darr bullet
