Huvius,
I saw your post on another forum - I drooled then and these are causing it to happen again!  To steal a line used before, I must be level headed because drool is coming out of both corners of my mouth...  Thanks for sharing them here.

Greg

Thanks for the comments!
I’ve been collecting for about twenty years and have actually thinned a little in the last couple.
My focus is more on pre 1898 and black powder cartridge rifles now.
In fact I think only three of the rifles pictured are post 1898.

That looks like a fairly substantial retirement fund in those photos!  Gorgeous rifles, all of them ...

Love that Swinburn.  Would you mind posting a closeup of the action engraving and the barrel/action join?

Thanks.

This Swinburn has a much more glossy finish to the action than most British guns.  Totally original though I think.

Absolutely fantastic.  That’s a lot of Alex Henrys in one place.  Kudos to you sir.  Not easily gathered even with a large account to work with.

When we talk about big bore single shot rifles, we tend to talk about American Buffalo Rifles and not so much about Nitro Express rifles. It is so nice to see some elegant old nitro express rifles.  I have a 500NE and I am thinking abnout a 9.3x74r.

Thanks for the Swinburn photos.

I have one out being restored right now. Very similar engraving pattern.

Yes I will.
Got a table or two with Steve Bertram.
I plan on having mostly guns there I want to sell but can bring out any that you have an interest in seeing too.
I really need to build a couple good display racks.  I hate having them just laying on the table.

Here's a 500NE that didn't make the lineup.
Army & Navy 500 3"

And a Holland and Holland 500/450
Such a lovely rifle but I can't bring myself to show the sad part of it...

Very nice.  I would love to have one good example of a British single shot sporting rifle.  It’s been on my list for awhile without success yet.  I blame Ross Seyfried for many of my bucket list items.

Anybody know how to resize my photos?  For some reason they are coming up too big.

Yes, a real shame although I think it happened early in the life of the rifle and that is why the metal is in such excellent condition.
It was poorly screwed back together with wood screws and brass plates but I doubt anybody tried to shoot it with that repair.
As it is, it really needs a restock as a repair that will work is doubtful.

Thanks for the photo's and yes, well worth a new stock.

I was curious because I have one nearly completed in .375 flanged magnum. I started with a rather plain, border engraved 2nd model, so it will never hold a candle to your high-grade takedown.

Sorry, no pictures, the barrel is out for engraving.

Huvius,
That is a crying shame!  But the fact the metal is near immaculate shape is definitely a plus!
Sending you a PM with the name of a fella not to far from you that may be worth considering for restocking this.

Don't suppose there is a dent on the comb from the lion's skull that he broke the stock over after his gun bearer ran off with the ammo?

Huvius,
That is the most extrodinary collection of British rifles I have seen since my two week visit to London in 2011.I took two days and visited their National Rifle Association at Bisley and was given a personal tour of grounds as well as seeing the rifles they do not display. It was an experience I will never forget.

Thanks for complementing my collection!
I’ve actually sold a few really nice rifles on the last couple of years - two Frasers, two Jeffery Farquharsons, a couple Gibbs Farqs along with a couple double rifles.
I can say, though, the H&H Woodward is just an incredible rifle well worth restocking but only if done to exacting standards.  If there was any aspect not done properly I don’t know if I could stomach it.

There is a superb craftsman, Dennis Smith, who calls himself and his website The Stock Doctor.  You should consider contacting him for an evaluation as to whether your original H&H stock can be repaired.

Huvius,

Thats a very nice group of British single shots. A shame about your H & H.
Years ago there was a gentleman in this neck of the woods named Austin Moorcroft who had an extensive collection of British single shots that first sparked my interest in those rifles. He and his rifles are long gone. Some of his rifles are pictured in reference books on British single shots.

I too would highly recommend Dennis "The Stock Doctor." He has fixed two stocks for me, one was broken just like yours; through the wrist and through checkering. He fixed it perfectly and I have actually shot the rifle at matches with no problems. You cannot tell at all that the stock was broken in half through the checkered grip. Amazing work and he could properly fix yours.

Incredible collection you have! Well done!
