.375 Maximum rifle loads

My long ago desired project is getting close Smiley
22" 1 in 14" twist .375 Maximum in a .358 barrel on a small Martini.
Yes, the cartridge fits. Yes, the firing pin is bushed. Yes, it has a fitted extractor.
So any personal best rifle .358 or .357 (spire or round nose) loads out there?

For .357 Maximum using a 200 grain bullet in a 1:14 twist barrel:

11.0 to 13.0 grains of AA 9, AA 4100, H108, WC820 or MP 300.

12.5 grains will be about 1540 fps which is a good velocity for it.
Heavier loads can cause blowback around outside of case resulting in dimpling of the case wall.
This is reduced by leaving a slight bell in the case mouth to seal case in chamber before it is fired.

I actually have a LW in 357 Max. The Max is a excellent cartridge!

With a breech seated, Ideal 35875, 208 gr bullet, I got my best accuracy with 14.0 gr of BOTH WC 820 and 4227. My rifle has a 28" barrel and the velocity with the WC 820 load, was1437. I started at 13.0 (1353 fps) and went to 16.0 (1557).

With fixed ammo, I shot the H&G, 150 gr GC bullet, starting at 18.0 gr of WC820 (2025 fps). I took that bullet to 22.0 gr of WC 820 BUT, if you go past 20.0 gr (2170 fps), do it with extreme caution!

These loads were shot at 30F deg, so be aware of that and be cautious. Your rifle should be a little stronger than a LW but lighter. Your shoulder may tell you when to stop.

You can also use the 358315 bullet, mine weighs the same as the 35875 @ 208 with a GC. I won't say how high I took that bullet but, you can start at 13.0 for fixed ammo.

As I indicated, you can interchange 4227 with the WC 820 data and AA #9 has the same basic burn rate as WC 820. You can use the powders that Dave lists, with this data too. I'm not sure where he got his velocity's but, my barrel may be a lot longer.

One other thing, my barrel has a 20 twist.

Dave and Frank,
Thanks. I had the barrel kept heavy for more weight out front, but I do expect heavy loads to kick a bit. I had a M71 in .348 and thought it was not bad in the least with factory loads.
I want it for fun range time and "plinking". With heaver bullets I'm thinking hogs, or deer in tight brush or woods. Not like what most of Northern Nevada is...

I have one I have been building too...had Jess re-bore an existing barrel.  Been to busy to finish it.  Thanks for the loads, but I need to develop a non lead load to take a hog here in the people republic of California

Doubles,
I was hoping that someone had worked with the 200 and 225 Grain Barnes Triple Shock X-Bullet for visits to State of Cali. The Hornady 200 Grain FTX Flex Tip looks of interest too.
I'm even thinking of some black powder and lead loads...

But ALL data is welcomed with thanks.  Smiley
