My Stevens arrived.   This is the Fancy Sight on it.  Action is tight and bore is workable.  David

Looks like a good time!

Thanks to my support group I'm going to be enjoying rice and beans for the next couple months also, thinking I'll even have to forgo the beer unless I make it...  Sad

It looks like your Stevens is wearing a Winchester Model 96A "Dockendorff" rear dovetail sight that was made for the Winchester Model 68 Bolt Action 22RF Rifle.    Wink

The Sight has a Patent #2014735, September 17, 1935. F.L. Humeston.  I didn't know of it till now.  Interesting read of the Patent.  David

Winchester cataloged the 96B rear dovetail sight for use on the Model 69 Rifle, instead of the 96A sight that was used on the Model 68 Rifle.
There is a very slight visual difference between the 96A and 96B sights, readily apparent when you have placed both variations side by side to compare them.

What kind of money would that sight be worth to 69 collectors--enough to buy a Lyman tang-sight?  There's currently a 69 craze stimulated by, I guess, a soon-to-be-published book about them by one of the members of the Win. forum. Don't know how such a mass-produced economy model .22 could be selling now for as much as a 52, but they seem to be.

Just to get us back on track, here's a pic of my 44 in 25RF with a Stevens scope.

Thats a realy nice 44 and scope. What do you use for ammo? What kind of accuracy are you getting? I have always found the .25 to be less accurate than the .22 Long Rifle or the .22 Short in the same model guns. My understanding was that it was designed as a hunting round.

Someone went to Church on Sunday, not me but thanks for the prayers....
Made up a little test plug, groove is .22rf rim diameter.   I may be able to make up a Case using .22rf centered in the case to get this one up and shooting.  That will be fun, prayers welcomed!  David

I don't shoot it much, just some old Canuck ammo, but it' fun.
