trio of low wall rifles

my favorite single shot rifle ever (before I acquired my Ballard and My Hepburn, but that's another story...  Smiley ) was the Winchester 1885, and esthetically speaking, the Low Wall.

Here are the three that stayed with me so far:

Top to bottom:

32-20,  30" barrel, set triger
.22LR, 24" round barrel
32 Long RF, 26" barrel

Unknown maker front sight
I liked the look of it on the rifle.

And an unknwon tang sight (I believe it might be Axtell made, but have no idea if and how they vere marked. Definitely not the average "italian" quality that we normally find in Europe these days...)

i have acquired the necessary "turned brass" .22 primed modern brass for the 32 Long, but have not tried it yet. The rifle is the best preserved one, with quite a lot of original finish.

The two others are "shooters", rasonnably accurate for the 32-20, load tests pending, a bit of a rough bore on the .22LR makes it a plinking gun (relining would be my option, but tinkering with guns has been outlawed in France last year, so getting parts is near impossible, and talking about it on forums would be stupid  Roll Eyes)

Very nice freebird. Also my favorite rifle. The front sight looks to be a Winchester #67. From your previous post's, you have a nice collection of single shots. Enjoy. Dale.

I could find a place in my heart (and safe) for all three of those gems. Thanks for the tour.

As I remember, freebird, Axtell sights are stamped with an "A" inside a circle (or other simple figure) on the bottom of their bases.

A inside a shield on the Axtell  sights I have. Tom Axtell told me that they started marking them after he saw some of their sights passed off as mint originals for big bucks Ken

Thanks for the feedback.
I'll check the presence of a A mark under the tang sight when I can convince myself to take it off  Smiley

The front sight is modern made, but sure look like a Winchester original. Again, did not find a mark on it before installing it...

It could be one that was made by Parts Unknown, a very nice sight. Axtell sights tend to have a more bluish peacock color to them.
