I enjoyed that story of Schultze powder! I happen to have the same can pictured in the story sitting on top of one of my gun safes.

Annie Oakley liked Schultze.

Wonder when Annie Oakley wrote the powder story? Or when she was interviewed for it?

Mix eggshells into your powder. She said she did her best shooting with that batch. Not for black powder though.

Vall,
According to the link below, it sounds like Annie Oakley's article Powders I Have Used was published by DuPont in 1914.

Your welcome, guys.

To bad we can't talk Hodgdon into making a batch of it, I'd love to try it.

They could save a lot of money on the building construction, to manufacturer it Smiley

Be careful what you wish for Frank.
I have (had?) an unopened can of Dupont#5 and wanted to try it out, sorta like you and Schultze. I found an old recipe and made up a box of .45 Colt rounds and went and shot about half of 'em up. No big deal either way. On the way home, my brain finally kicked in an remembered all those horror stories about the early days of smokeless powder, and the ruined barrels brought on by the first of the 'new' powders. Yes, lots of that was primer problem, and some was laziness. But, it was a problem. By the time I got got home, I couldn't get that ol' single action cleaned fast enough. I would much rather stick with the lovely powders made in the last half of the 20th century til now. Wanna try out the Dupont #5? I have most of a can left. And, it'd come with about twenty loaded .45s.  Roll Eyes

Too bad you didn't express an interest earlier Frank! When I got my can it was 3/4 full, and I was hesitant to try it, even though the back of the can had some load data. Powder actually smelled good too, but I'm a big wussy and chickened out. Dumped it in my wife's flower bed.

I would have loved to try. I've used very old powders, I even have a couple LB of Bulk Shot Gun powder.
