Possible Gove rolling block

This one is chambered in 32-40 remington.  A fellow collector who also collect carlos gove altered rifles is pretty confident this all looks like his work.

Neat rifle, thanks for showing it. Gonna shoot or just stow it away?

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Have you taken the stocks off to look for any maker's marks on the wood, or under the forearm on the barrel?
Gove rifles I've seen, (which aren't many) had his mark on the barrel. But maybe he didn't mark them if just the stocks were built, or modified?

Thank you for posting the photos Neches.  I only owned one C. Gove Rolling Block and have seen only a handful more.

Of the ones I've held and seen, Gove used a toe-plate with his buttplate (Hawken-style).  The barrel looks like a standard Remington barrel.  I didn't see any markings on the barrel or receiver in your photos.

It's always possible that it could be, but it doesn't have his standard features.

The trigger has the same design we have seen on other Gove rifles.  The barrel was turned down to half octagon with the ring turned into it as well.  The caliber marking is missing due to this where it should be in front of the forearm.  There is no makers stamp any where on the rifle.  Yes I may shoot it one day.  If any one has any other examples showing any features this one has I would love to see pictures.

It's a neat gun, regardless of whether it may or may not be Gove. The trigger checkering seems a bit less quality than what I'd expect to see from Gove's shop. He had some very fine craftsmen working for him in his Denver shop, and they did some of the finest quality work in the USA.
Schoyen worked for Gove from 1870-1884, and bought his shop after Gove retired.

Marlin guy  I know he worked for Gove and eventually bought the business from him.  Regardless of the quality of craftsmanship we know Gove capable of this trigger is exactly like other Gove marked guns we I have encountered.

Nice rifle. The wood work is of good quality. I own two Gove marked rolling blocks and they are very different and have very different triggers and wood. Not saying its not possible that Gove did the work just not characteristic of any of the 8-10 Gove rolling blocks I have seen and handled. Best
