32-20 cpa shooters help

Don't have it yet but ordered up a 32-20cpa RKS gain twist barrel set-up and researching load info as I wait for delivery.  200yard bench shooting application.  Found mention of an article by Paul Shuttleworth in a past post, "Why not 32-20cpa?" but can not find it anywhere on the web. anyone have info as to how I can get a copy, a link, etc?  Also, some general questions:  rifle or pistol primers? magnum or standard primers? starting loads for 200ish gr bullets with 4100(enforcer) or #9.  any little tips to help me get started appreciated.  thanks

someone mentions in a previous post from 2015 an article specific to the 32-20cpa, unless this is the same article reprinted for single shot exchange in 2018.   I saw this one, thanks for posting scharfe.   I was hoping to hear from some 32-20cpa shooters.  I can be pm'ed as well.

It seems to me the logical thing to do is to discuss this question with Paul.

I was at his shop a couple months ago, and he proudly showed me various one-hole groups shot with his rifles in .32-20.

I would check the Cast Bullet Association website and look under Matches  then Benchrest and check out the August 2018 match in Springfield,Or. and other matches in Wa. state as several times I have seen data on the equipment lists for the 32-20 CPA.

Good advice. Earl Whitmore (who passed a year ago this month - may he RIP) followed Paul's loading advice and won as often as not at the matches at Atglen. Between Earl's & the rifle's abilities they were a force to be reckoned with.

Gail sent me an older copy of the article posted above from SSE.  As I thought the article is similar but the original must have been edited for the SSE. I attached the "original" article for those interested.  The original actually references a "32-20CPA"

When I ordered my CPA in 32-20 I followed Gail's advice, in that it could be reamed to 32-40 if the cartridge did not work for me.  I fought that cartridge for 3 years before sending it back for the 32-40 conversion.  the 32-20 would never stay consistent and put a LOT of powder and lead downrange.  The 32-40 was an instant success and I wish I'd not wasted those 3 years.  YMMV but that was my experience.

Bill Crane experimented with 32-20 for several years at Tacoma.  I don't think he ever used it in a match.  He said it should work, but it won't.  Undecided

I would not waist my money on a 32/20. I have yet see one shoot good. Check match equipment listings in the top 10. No 32/20's to speak of. If you want a highly accurate cartridge then the 32/40 is hands down way better.

I love my .32-20CPA!
Starting with single shots in about 2012, I had no mentors and little advise as to where to start. I played with a couple of rimfires until I finally got my 1st CPA. 22RF, BR wood, Shilen barrel, Weaver T-36. Started winning with my 2nd match.
I wanted more. Next up would be CF, but which one? I read Paul Shuttleworth's article about .32-20CPA. I read SS Rifle Journal (July/Aug 2012) about Jan Pritchard's .577", 200 yd group. and, I spoke with other shooters. Every one said to go with .32-40. I questioned why do what everyone else does? I needed to find an edge. Paul built me a .32-20CPA.  Thanks to a ton of reading, testing and help from my newly found friends on this forum, I have found a pretty good degree of success. I have total satisfaction from my .32-20CPA.  No complaints here!

It can be very competitive but it also takes allot of work. I have sat next to Jan in practice sessions where he has shot several 250's back to back and has over forty 250's in practice alone. But his case preparation was no easy task and why he has since returned to the 32-40 as have the others in our group who were using the same at that same point in time and now there are none. I know he would start out the new year with a new case of brass and what he did from there would be best for him to explain. It would make for a good article in the Journal but probably to much to be able to share how just how he reached such remarakble consistency here.
