Kurt the BACO 409400M4 shoots very well in my two Shiloh Sharps rifles.  I don't know what the throat looks like in your rifle, but in the Shiloh throat it fits well.  It sits quite shallow in the case.  I use 16:1 and 62gr of Swiss 1.5.

How about this one.
Its my tapered/stepped Elliptical ogive Minigroove , Wt 370 gr, 1.325" long bullet
and from my 16 twist 40-65 with 74.5 gr Swiss 1.5
under it for 1400fps, its accurate and stabile out to 1000yds.
Sub minute...
Also have a DDEPP bullet if you want to go into PP.

The old Lyman Snover 410663 is tough to beat, and a very good bullet mold for $79. 400 gr.

The snover doesn't hold enough lube for BP, other than that its a fine bullet.
The BACO bullet is a much better bullet, the Saeco 740 is a good one too.

Kurt,

If it's a Shiloh Sharps I'd go with the BACO JIM409400M4 as others have recommended and shoots very well in my Sharps.  If it's a modern Miroku made Browning or Winchester I recommend BACO's JIM410410M1 or JIM410410M3 which fits the throat and bore better.  Here's an article on the two "money bullets" for the Browning/Win.

And to round out the list, Bernie Rowles at Old West makes a 400 grain NASA II monogroove.

The 410663 is indeed a good bullet for 40-65.
Stabile and accurate out to 600 yds.
It has shot into minute of angle from my Brg BPCR and in my rebuilt Hi Wall  16 twist.

For BP loads, recommend wiping one to two wet patches between shots

One thing I did before I switched to my E-Mini bullet
was to nose size the 410663 in a 0.401 H&I or Lee die
down two drive bands, so I could seat it out further and
get more powder under it

It is my understanding that both Boomer & Paul Jones are no longer in business. Correct?

Remember Money bullets need 1,250 fps or they will go to sleep at 500 yards; so best to use Swiss FFFg to increase velocities or else use a tapered bullet so you can get more powder into the case.

I definitely agree with that comment.  In fact I'm about to complete an article on the accuracy of several bullets in a .40-65 chambered 16-twist bore.  I'll go a step further and say that even with higher velocity (more than 1250fps) it's tough to get MOA accuracy past 600yds due to case powder limitations even with FFFg & a tapered bullet.

Later update - I should clarify my comment above.  It assumes bullets of 400gr or heavier resulting in lengths around 1.4" long or longer.

Yes Paul Jones has retired and Leo has shut down his Boomer Moulds web page.

Leo continues to make moulds for his past clients and is making me a .50-70 mould this winter.

However he is not taking on new clients.

Regardless any past mould design made by a previous manufacturer can be duplicated by a custom mould manufacturer such as Brooks or NOE.

I must add a little correction to Dave's post.

Unless a mold is cataloged on NOE's site, you have to have 10 people that want a mold, made to any other specification.

However some mould makers machine individual moulds instead of making a cherry and they will do single orders.

A good example is Buffalo arms (BACO).  I have several BACO moulds and some from Paul Jones (now retired).  The BACO moulds are as good as the PJ moulds.  I can't speak for BACO, but from my experiences with them they will take single orders but prefer making modifications to an existing mould in their line.

Good point on twist rate Schuetzendave! It certainly makes a difference as it pertains to bullet length.
Two of my .40's have modern barrels with 1:16" twist rates. The other 5 are originals with twist rates of 1:20".
Surprisingly (to me) they all shoot a lighter 330 and 350 gr. bullet as good as the heavier 400-410 gr. bullets. But my Ballard Pacific in .40-85 especially likes the lighter 330 gr. bullets over the heavier Snover. The heavier Snover in the Pacific will begin to tumble around 600 yds. when checked on paper. Where the lighter 330 gr. bullet still shows stable at the 650 yd targets.
But my .40-63 Ballards and my .40-50SS Roller all prefer the lighter 330 gr. for their slower twist rates.
