Jim,
I have breech seated data, with a 170 gr bullet. It's the only load I tried with that bullet, the rest are a 184 gr, BSed, also.

11.5 gr #9, 1509 fps, 7 1/2 Rem primers, 26" bbl.

Reduce to 10.5 max, for fixed, in your LW. I'd start at 9.0 and work up. If you use 4227 or 4100/Enforcer, I think you can add 1/2 gr. 296/H110, can also be used, starting a 9.0 gr.

Frank, do you think that load might be acceptable in my 2 trigger Wesson rifle?

Thanks Mr Frank. I wrote it down this time! Maybe I can keep up with it. Got a few days off so wanted to spend some time at the range.

I have no idea, as to how strong those are or their twist rate.

Just as a guess, you might try 7.5 gr #9, or 8.0 gr of 4227, with about a 130 gr bullet.

That shouldn't produce much pressure but, again, just a guess. Be careful.

Mr Frank,

Tried 11gr of IMR4227 with a 165gr bullet but am getting a lot of unburned powder. This is fixed ammo. This is what I had on hand. Accuracy was nill at 100yd from a rest. About 2 inches. What powder should I try? Willing to buy what I need. Also any sources for better store bought bullets?

Thanks

I got my best accuracy with #9 powder.

#9 is generally available in my area now so, hopefully it will be on your area, too.

Use 7 1/2 or F205M for primers, If you can get H108, it has the same burn rate as #9 At the same charge weight.

If your getting unburnt powder with 4227, that generally means low pressure so, you may be able to go up, one more grain.

If you have a chronograph, stay under 1500 fps. My best load was at 1476 fps but with 184 gr bullets.

The 30-30 Wesson was one of those tried by several knowledgeable and dedicated competitive individuals in our group with very little to no success so I wouldn't set my expectations to high but have fun with it in trying.
