38-55 load data for M&P 300 powder
Dec 18th, 2018 at 6:48pm
Print Post
I tried M7P300 powder in my 38-55 based on a recommended load provided by a member of this forum. I have had good success so far but would like to continue my load development. I believe the burn rate is between SR-4759 and IMR 4227. Does that mean I can  safely use load data for 4759 or 4227 with Alliant M&P300? Unfortunately there isn't much published load data for 4759 or 4227 in 38-55, especially with a 300 gr bullet either.

Thanks!

By it's velocity per gain, it slower than H110/296, at least at higher pressurs (35-40K).

Check out the load/velocity, in cartridges such as 44 Mag, on Alliant's site.

That would mean that you can use more 300 MP than 4227 or 4759.

A old, 38/55, 1970's to 80's, target load, was 18.5 gr of 4759, with a 290 - 300 gr bullet.

The 300MP load I believe came from me. In regards to the burn rate it is right with 4759. Copy and paste the below link and paste or type it into your Google search or other. It should take you to their burn rate chart where it is located. To say if one could then use more would be up to your own judgement.
Also just try clicking on the lower link and the chart itself should come up.

Load data is located on the bottom of this 200 yard target if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. I believe this might be the load the OP was referring too but I could be wrong.

Does your first link work for you?

It does not on my cell below is what comes up and if I click on the highlighted castpic>loaddata>burnrate right after Search Google for: it redirects me to it and then it comes up. Did the PDF file of the chart open for you when you clicked on it.

This site can’t be reached (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) server IP address could not be found.
Search Google for castpics >load data>burn rate

It is also the most complete burn rate chart I have found to date.

Burn rate works on my laptop.  Not on my cell either.

BobZ to date I have done extensive testing of all of the following #'s in my 32-40 over the past seventeen years 99,101,104,108,113,114,115,116,117,118,119,121,122,125,126,128,131,132,139 and 140. The 300MP turned out to be the most consistent for me with the H-108 being a close second or a close equal to.

They refer to each of the powders on the burn rate chart I shared Jeff. Example 113 being H-108 etc.

Testing was using a minimum of 2lbs. each but 4lbs. was more typical. Some just didn't show any real promise and there was no sense in trying more than 2lbs. yet others showing allot of promise and were worth testing more than just the 4lbs. What I was actually looking for was day to day consistency as well as year round. Not just some super nice groups of which can become very miss-leading if not testing further.
