You might find this store interesting. Several Schuetzen medal for auction. It has gotten too pricey for me. Feel free to drool. Not mine.

Interesting thread! I looked up Niedner's background and found it to be fascinating.

As for medals, these can be found at all the various antique arms shows in my area. Personally I collect German pre-1930 Schützen medals when I come across them at a reasonable price.

the Rothmanner medals gold value @ todays price is $461.65 so anything over that is what you would be paying for the medal. Depending on the final bid, some might be a good invesment.

Spot gold price, not what a gold buyer would pay

so are we/youn a gold buyer or a medal buyer? you decide, if one truly wants a nice gold schuetzen medal, be prepared to pay for it, and be nice about it. pun intended.

These old schuetzen medals usually go higher than the value of their precious metals. These are more "precious medals".

Just clarifying about gold value. As a medal collector i see people buying just for gold and silver. The knowledgeable ones that that’s there intent give out before the real collector. But some one who think spot is what they can get sometimes go crazy.

Even the company I bought precious metals from wont buy it back at spot. But they guarantee they'll buy it back at .50 cents under spot if I bring in receipts showing I bought it from them. I've never sold any yet, so have no idea how other companies buy it?

In case someone here bought the SF 1901 National it is actually 21.6 K gold. It was made from U.S. gold pieces for the event.

There were 4 or 5 old schuetzen medals from late 1800's that just closed on EBay. I had bid on all of them, but got totally blown out of the bidding pretty early. The highest went over $600!!!! The lowest went around $275.
These neat old medals are doing better than the guns that won them!
