New mold showing promise

Just what I needed was another 32 caliber mold, but I couldn't pass this up on eBay.  It was half the price of a new one.  It is a nose pour number 324220.  It casts a 1.161 long 227 gr bullet in 20-1 with a .323 base band and a slight taper.  I took it out today and shot it against my Hoch Darr design go to bullet at 200 yds.  Definitely deserves some more testing especially when the wind picks up.

Interesting, although the Hoch/Darr bullet looks a little better, those groups with the heavier bullet are pretty nice!

What is your twist rate Jack? When you say a little taper, how much is that?  Is the front band much larger than bore diameter then?

thanks,

Chris.

Chris,

The front band is about .316.  It seats quite easily compared to my Paul Jones .321 no taper bullet.  I was shooting it in my 14 twist High Wall with a Green Mountain barrel.

Thanks very much Jack.   I'm going to have to try and find a mold with a less taper.  Most of mine are quite a bit under bore diameter on the front band.

I am curious and wanting to learn as much as I can from everyone so bear with me. I noticed on all the targets except the one with DARR next to it are full clean round holes but that one has tears in all of the holes. What causes that?
Thanks guys

Bob

I’m holding on as best as I can Bob. However I think I am at the wrong end.

Jack you didn't mention a slight change in powder charge unless I missed it. Bullet shoots good and little tweaking can work wonder's. Congratulations appears you have another good bullet indeed.

John

So far I have only tried 3 different charges.  12.5 gr of 300MP has consistently given the best results with my 208 gr Hoch Darr designed spritzer and that looks good for the new bullet as well. I cast up 50 more of the new bullet to continue testing.  Then it got cold (for us west coasters anyway). Back to good old rain this weekend.

Jack have you tried the 14.2 grain range with the 300MP, average velocity is 1474 fps out my way with similar bullets. Has always worked out extemely well for myself at 200yds. and 13.7 grains for a 100.

John,

I have tried charges in that range, but not extensively.  Might try it again.....Worth a shot Smiley

Dave I am going to use some of your lube on my .32-40 bullets this Friday.   Do I drink the scotch before, during, or after shooting?  Smiley.

This morning it was a balmy ( for you Alberta guys ) -5 degrees C at the range.

Chris.
