Looking at the photo I find it hard to believe that it's only 5.75" high.  I wonder if that's typo in the description?  Then again shipping is only $25 so it can't be very big or heavy.

What's on offer is the patent model, which doesn't have to be full-size or even of the proper materials, only work well enough to demonstrate the features claimed in the patent.  Until it quit requiring models circa 1880, the patent office had acquired such a hoard of them that over time, some were given to the Smithsonian and other museums, some were sold or given away to the public, and many were simply destroyed.  In short, regardless of how many full-sized examples were produced (which often is 0), there is only one patent model, so you can easily see why the most important/famous are highly coveted.

Thanks Bill,

That make perfect sense.  I missed the "Model" designation.

And a bit of a surprise and it seems some collectior not knowing what he or she collects wanted to add it to their collection.

Not surprising to me. Antique loading tools, and those who collect them are really willing to step up for rare and unique tools. It's one of those bragging rights things when they can own something nobody else has.
I'm never surprised how much some of these old reloading tools can go for anymore!
A lot of these collectors don't even own any guns too!

I agree Vall such items can fall into various types of collections. A friend not a gun collector was an avid cartridge collector and had quite a bit of money involved in his collection. He was down to only lacking a few from making it complete. Don't know if he finally accomplished doing so he ended up moving to Idaho and I haven't seen him for quite sometime. Collection was really quite a sight to see.

I'm not an antique tool collector, so I rarely can compete with those who are. I love owning complete loading accessories for my old single shot rifles, but they're tough to find, and tougher to buy. I occasionally stumble across something, but I either have to get pretty lucky, or find it at smaller venues. Anything that shows up on Ebay, or a big auction brings out the big boys who are very serious about tool collecting.

Once was a fellow who came into allot of money and it didn't matter what the cost he was going to end up with it period. If he was bidding on an item other than driving up the price he had to pay for it, it was just a waste of time. Those who knew him reffered to him as Charlie McNut for the prices he was paying. Rumor had it he blew all his money and then had to start selling it all off but also not sure if that was indeed really true but he did finally quite bidding.

Thanks for sharing that - it was really amazing. I have never seen a swaging machine. Now I hope eventually someone will post a picture of the one they made from the original patent!

Is this where we send checks for the swaging machine?
