LYMAN SCOPE MOUNT

My STS mount has a problem. The click adjustment is not working.
I don't know what makes the click but this one doesn't have it. Does anyone know how they actually work. As you can see I have taken the knob out of the mount and I don't see anything untoward.

Good many here would call that a blessing, not a problem!

Have to take the thimbles apart to find the trouble.

In the Silhouette game you are not allowed to have a click adjustable scope so many people take out the part that clicks - usually a spring loaded ball that rotates between indents as you rotate the knob.

Thanks Dave. I just can't figure out how to get to the spring loaded ball. I have learned from previous mistakes that a little too much force applied by the ignorant can make matters a lot worse.

Perhaps this will help.
Yes, that .22 case was distracting so with a little Photo Shop magic, I took it out.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

Very nice & helpful photo!  But when I took mine apart, I found they left out the .22 case!

J Louis, those exploded drawings do show how the mount works and I appreciate you sharing them. The problem I have is figuring out how to take apart the thimble without destroying the threads or breaking some something. To be specific, how do you take parts 1,2,and 3 out of part 5? Maybe RSW could explain it to me.

Here is a link to the discussion where that picture was posted.  Might help a bit more.

It looks to me, that #2 is threaded onto #6. Note the slot in #2.

This is from Jack's link:

At this point it took me a while to figure how to disassemble further. After digging out all the old grease from the inside of 3 I realized there was a common screw slot in there. I took a chance on trying to turn it in the conventional direction but it wouldn't budge. I added some more Kroil and let it set for a few hours. It finally loosened and out came part 2. Part 2 has internal threads that engage the threaded post on part 6. Once 2 is removed, everything comes apart."

That patent is for the J.W. Fecker mount which uses a different internal turret design than the Lyman.

BTW, I'm in the process of working up an article on "de-clicking" Fecker and Unertl mounts, and considering also adding details on the Lyman mount.  The Lyman STS mount is a little more complicated to de-click since it has to be disassembled to remove/disable the "clicker" spring & rod.

Looking at the pieces it appears that the first thing that has to separate is part #1. Does it unscrew or do you simply pull it out? I do really appreciate all you guys helping me out on this.
