We had the annual meeting of the Australian Cartridge Collectors' Assoc. last weekend. It was a great event and the highlight for me was finding a full packet of early Eley .25/21 Stevens. The Brits sure liked to wrap cartridges in brown paper & tie it up with string. Some collector had pried a corner open to peek at the head stamp...so did I & there was head stamp which is unusual. This little gem was inside a box that was buried inside a tin full of packets on a dealer's table......you have to dig for gold Wink!
UMC round for comparison

That's a very cool find!

I have a tradition (habit) of buying a box of cartridges at each gun show I attend.  Every once in a while I look at my bookshelves and realize I've "invested" enough money in vintage cartridges that would be the equivalent of a very nice rifle.

Congratulations on a rare find!

Doesn't take too many nice old boxes of cartridges to equal a nice gun these days! I sometimes think I should sell some and buy another gun! Most I have were purchased decades ago when they weren't so highly prized (or priced). I can recall buying nice old lift top boxes of various old ammo for $10-$20 a box. Now they're 10x that, or more.

Joe and Vall, you ain't alone in buying those boxes, or a few singles, at shows. I suppose I first did it to have 'period' ammo for  a gun (I collect a coin or two for the same reason). But, I believe that somewhere along the line, it served as a pacifier when I couldn't get a rifle deal going. Then, I started telling folks that, "no, I'm a cartridge collector too".  Sound at all familiar?...........
And, am I a coin collector in addition..........................?

Spud, you got a neat find at the bottom of that heap. Good fer you! When you get a sealed one, isn't it a horrible temptation to do what happened to that one you have?
I bought a sealed two-piece box of Winchester brand .38 long with the earliest Stetson markings. Sealed, and in fine condition from a guy that was tired of lugging it around. Now I've held every one of the rounds in my hand individually. Why? Dropped onto the floor and busted open like bomb explosion.  AngryBE CAREFULL, my friend.

I've always told friends I'm NOT a cartridge collector. But it's hard to say that and look at my gun room. Just a lot of evidence to prove I'm fibbing.

That's a really nice find! All the old ammo I come across recently has pretty much crumbled away. The ammo I came across as a kid has held up pretty well, but that's ww1 and later. Nice you could find it in the shape it's in.
