Well, I'll continue the hunt for a nice centerfire Stevens and if I have to pay the long dollar, then there it is. I just don't think a brown gun is worth over $1000, unless it's really special.

If it doesn't sell at the posted price, there's nothing to loose by making a (polite) counter-offer; happens all the time on ebay, I'll tell you for sure.

I've bought a few on Gunbroker that way. Especially when a gun has been relisted for a long time.

Indeed.  That's how I wound up with my first 108.  Seller was calling it a 44 and admitted that the chambering had been messed with.  After a couple of months I offered him $400 for it, because it had nice wood. Only after I started studying it at home did I begin to realize what I'd bought.

Maybe you should try that approach again--gun did not sell & has been relisted.

I'll let it go on for a few months.  I have the idea that the seller is a dealer; a Goergen wannabe.  He's had other old ones listed, also at high prices.

Besides, I'm not in a buying frame of mind anymore.  Collection is overflowing the safes, and I'm not getting any younger.
