Value and desireability?

A long time client dropped by the shop yesterday, He was wanting to dispose of some tools that his father had aquired. The interesting is that his father was employed by Remington Arms for 37 years. I was hoping for some interesting gunsmithing tools or obscure parts. There were a hand ful of wood bits a few old clamps and 20 chisles and gouges. Most are marked "made in London", "made in England" or "Butcher". Some are small and several quite large, does anyone have a recomendation on where to go to determine a value on these? All have wooden handles and some rust. All need a good sharpening and I am sure have many years of use left in them. TIA.

A guy at the MAAC Show had a bunch of chisels and gouges on his table, variously marked “J B Addis” and “England.”  They we’re going for $20 apiece but not flying off the table, as far as I could see.

I already have a hoard of tools, so I gazed at them longingly, gawped in amazement at the rifles he had made with them, and moved on.  Lower prices might have compelled me otherwise, but what I need more is the skill to use the stuff I have already. Smiley

You might do better with your query on a woodworker or auction site, checking sale prices on the latter.

Right--no prospective buyer is likely to care they were once used by a Rem. employee, unless the tools were actually marked "Prop. Rem. Arms."

I suggest you contact Martin J. Donnelly through his tool auction site (mjdtools.com) or tool dealer Patrick Leach through his Superior Tool Works site (supertool.com).  The Butcher chisels and gouges, by the way, are also English make.
