It doesn't exist--probably a .32-35, predecessor of the .32-40.

I think the .32 Ideal was sometimes called the .32-25.

You can buy empty shells from Rocky Mtn. Cartridge Co.

I relined a shot-out Stevens 44-1/2 .32 RF to .32 Ideal and am playing around with it.  The cartridge is certifiably Cool.

You're right!  Never heard of it being called that, nor knew it held only 25g. until I looked it up just now.

Wonder which model they think it is that they refer to it as a "Hunter"? That terminology was attached to more thn one model, but the #1 1/2 would be the most often referred to as a Hunter. But it was never offered in that caliber that I know of? More likely it would be a #4 Perfection in that caliber, especially if it's a full octagon, as the #1 1/2 was a round barrel.

If it turns out to be a rim fire, there is one other possibility.

The buyer will find that amusing, I'm sure; just as amusing as my discovery that a supposed .22LR Stevens I once bought was actually a .25-20SS!  How could ANYONE be THAT stupid you ask?  If you ask that, you haven't been around enough gundealers.

Frank,  to reinforce your point about some dealers not knowing what they offer, some years ago I bought a three  barrel Bullard set, supposedly all .22.

When it arrived, it  turned out to be .25-20, .25-21 and .25-25.

Maybe .32 Extra-Long CF? That one shot heeled bullets and a chamber cast might confirm that?

Grant writes a little about shooting that cartridge in his first book.

A .32 Ideal Ballard would be a delightful find and easier to work with.

I think it would need to be the Wesson 32 XL (the case that the 25/20 is based on) to be able to hold that amount of powder.

If so, it would be a really great find.

If the Ballard turned out to be the #2 Hunter, and caliber turned out to be .32 Long, it would not be 25 grs. of BP. Even the .32 Extra Long would not hold 25 grs. of BP, and was listed at 20 grs. of BP.
Hope it's not a #2, unless the price was pretty cheap, as the #2 is certainly not as valuable as the forged frame Ballard rifles are.

Best mistaken caliber and rifle I bought was advertised as a Stevens 22LR lever action single shot at a buy it now price of $100.00 on Gun Broker. What I received was a Stevens Pope 28-30, wood and case colors 98% condition, 0441/2 action, half round to octagon, original Stevens tang sight. In short a very beautiful Woodchuck rifle that someone on this site now owns. What I expected to get as a worst case for the price was a wall hanger to put over the fireplace. If memory serves me right the new owner was writing up an article on the rifle and he posted a picture of the rifle on this site quite sometime back.

Well Frank is the winner ...I was happy to just find a Ballard for sale at a great price... then the shop told me it had reloading dies... i said I would take it. The Canpar depot guy says that I have two boxes to pick up and the small one was heavy. Not only did it come with dies it came with 94 loaded rounds. inside the box was the target showing a group shot at 100yds the dies had load info, bullet size weight, and instructions on case prep. The brass is starline 357 magnum. Dies are Lee 32 S&WL-J9

If i can find how to resize pictures , I have a bunch
