I bought an 1882 Maynard at auction in what was supposed to be .22LR.
Turns out it's .22 XL Centerfire.
DeadEye Bly could tell from the pic.
I still have it but I doubt I'll ever shoot it.

Have you measured the cases or cartridges that came with the gun? Have you examined the chamber to see if it's old or looks fresh, like a possible later reamed chamber? Is it a 2 line or 3 line address on the receiver? Round or rectangle firing pin at the rear?
It's more likely it was a .32 Long or .32 Ballard Extra Long that was reamed to .32 Wesson XL. But it would be interesting to see the pictures of the gun.
