Looking for good wet rotary case tumbler

Surfing through the web, the Lortone QT-12 looks better built than the perennial Thumler Model B (High Speed). Poking about, the commercial grade C100-12 has a much beefier motor... and about twice or thrice the price... $640-ish for the C100-12...  Smiley

I think the QT-12 will do fine...

I have two wet rotary tumblers. One a fairly expensive model I bought used from an estate. The other a cheap Harbor Freight I gave less than $100 for. Both work equally well. I figured if the HF went bad, I could buy a bunch of them before I ever reached the expensive ones. I've had it over 5 years now, and it gets a lot of use.

I've had a $50 Midway vibratory for over 20 years (I have changed the walnut hulls twice I think) and can't imagine why I would want to use a wet rotary for brass. I do have a wet rotary tumbler that I used to use for rocks but it would never get used for brass. The media in the vibratory polishes the outside and cleans the inside (and primer pockets). I see guys use rotary tumblers with ceramic media (would you really take a grinder to your brass?) or the stainless steel thingies that peen the neck mouths (do you really want the necks peened?). Huh?

I have this one and like it a lot. Definitely does a better job on primer pockets than dry tumbling IMO.

Back when I was still cleaning brass, I used walnut tumbling media and added a pound or so of 3d finishing nails, which seemed to clean the primer pockets and insides of the case OK.   Now, I am OK with the brass being brown and run a bronze brush in the neck to clean out the inside.   After about 50 shots out of a case, I found it necessary to clean the primer pocket.

Had Thumlers & Frankford Arsenal that I have used. Still using the FA (noisy, but out in the garage so who cares) for my wet tumbling. Got it for about $100 on sale, so when it goes, oh well. I use the Thumlers for lubing bullet jackets for swaging. Works great for me with a peanut butter jar & foam to hold it in place. The mouth on the FA is just too small for that.

Chauncey, I've used nothing but ceramic media in my wet rotary tumbler, and I have no idea how many times some of the brass has been cleaned. Never lost a case. But to answer the question. No I wouldn't use a grinder on my brass, but wet ceramic media is hardly a grinder.
