The exhibition on Alexander Henry in The People's Story Museum, Canongate, Edinburgh runs until w/c 24th September, if you're in town.

Looks very interesting, wish I could see it. But I did enjoy your article in the BlackPowder Cartridge magazine.

I wish they had a preview with some photos of some of the display items ... I bet it would be interesting.

I may have passed my "Best Before" date, but I haven't quite reached my "Expiry" date yet ...

Here are a couple of photos I've taken. I don't see any harm now, in that you probably live hundreds if not thousands of miles away, and there's only a week or two of the exhibition to go ?

The iconic photo, in the entrance hall, just as we were setting up

Details on the International Exhibition, the book of letters, and AH certificates

Some panels on the walls

The three rifles on display

Some of Henry's personal medals, and details on the Volunteers

There are other views I need to take photos of, and I'll add them later.

I wish I was still 30 and could shoot shoot that middle rifle  There's so much history there.  I wonder if Daniel Frazier had anything to do with those rifles while he worked for Alexander Henry?

Is that because you'd never get back up again !!?

Its text says :

"‘Two-Position Rifle’ by Alexander Henry
This rifle was made in 1882 for the South African agent, Albert P. Walsh. It includes three patents Henry owned; a patent for the 1860 rifling, a falling block breech-loading patent of 1865 and from 1877 for modifications for firing the rifle in two positions.
The two-position stock with two triggers was designed so that the rifle could be fired in the conventional position or lying down on the back. The rifle is shaped so that it would rest on the shoulder, with the barrel resting on the foot.
Serial number 5298
.450 falling block match rifle
On loan from private collection."

A fabulous display!  Many thanks for sharing the photos since I'd never get over to see it in person.  (Yes, I'm located MANY thousands of miles away and thanks to poor health I'm just not up to traveling long distances any more.)

The case in the Museum entrance hall contains The Henry Challenge Vase (its first public outing for … maybe a century?), a silver salver made to commemorate the Royal Review of 1860 by the builders of the staging used at the Royal Review in Queen’s Park in 1860, and a QERV busby … not necessarily THE busby as worn in the iconic Henry portrait photo.
(Sorry to say two light bulbs are currently out in the case).
